The Bachelor of Engineering Elite Programme nurtures talented, top-performing future engineering leaders through exclusive and flexible access to enriched learning opportunities—including high flexibility in major selection, global exposure, dual mentorship support, and strong industry connections—empowering them to unlock their potential, tackle emerging challenges, and thrive in highly competitive, fast-changing industries. Additionally, a total of HKD 150,000 in entrance and overseas exchange scholarships will be offered.

Why This Programme

  1. High Flexibility in Programme Major Selection
    • In the end of Year 1, Elite students are eligible to freely select their preferred BEng programme majors from:
      1. Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Data and System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; or
      2. faculty-based signature initiatives:
        1. Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering (X+AI) programme
        2. Global Engineering and Business Programme (GEBP)
        3. Bachelor of Engineering in Robotics Engineering (ROBO)^
          ^This programme is subject to the University’s approval.
      3. Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the School of Computer and Data Science (SCDS) – a minimum cumulative GPA 3.3 would be required
  1. Dual Mentorship
    • Special academic advisor
      1. To guide elite students through their curriculum design and overseas exchange choices
    • Industrial mentor
      1. To assist elite students in learning from state-of-the art practices in the corresponding industry.
  1. HKD $150,000 Scholarships
    • Entrance scholarship of HKD $100,000 will be disbursed in four instalments at the end of each academic year
    • Exchange scholarship of HKD $50,000 for each student
  2. Eligible for the CSHK HKU Engineering Flagship Programme Scholarship and Placement
    • During their studies at HKU Engineering, Elite students will be eligible to apply and may be selected for a one-off HKD $40,000 scholarship sponsored by the China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (CSHK).
    • In addition, they may be selected for an exclusive twomonth paid internship opportunity.

Elite Status Requirement

Students must maintain “Elite” status with a minimum cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 3.0 at the end of each academic year in order to continue enjoying the exclusive access and scholarships mentioned above. Students who fail to meet the required CGPA will continue their studies at HKU Engineering but without these privileges.

What You Will Study

Students will focus on their Engineering core courses in Year 1 and then freely choose a BEng degree programme to study starting from their Year 2. They will receive the same solid training in our existing BEng programmes and obtain the same BEng degrees. Special Academic Advisors will guide students through their curriculum design and overseas exchange planning, and Industrial Mentors will assist students in learning and connecting to state-of-the-art practices in the corresponding industries.

Career Prospects

The Elite Programme graduates are expected to have great flexibility in their career choices and development. In addition to the existing opportunities in engineering sectors, other students may also choose to serve in the business, research, education, social and community sectors. In the past, around 16% of the BEng graduates pursued further studies in Hong Kong or overseas.
